Poppy 2026

This vibrant orange flower is a California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica).
As the state flower of California, it is well-known for its brilliant satiny petals and its tendency to "close up" at night or during cloudy weather.
Key Characteristics
 * Petals: Usually four bright orange petals (though they can range from yellow to deep red).
 * Foliage: The leaves are finely divided and have a blue-green, fern-like appearance.
 * Habitat: They are native to the western United States and Mexico and are incredibly drought-tolerant, making them a favorite for water-wise gardens.
Note for gardeners: If you are thinking of planting these, they are very easy to grow from seed but do not like being moved once they've started growing because of their long taproots.
Would you like some tips on how to grow these in your own garden or space?
